CAFFEINE: THE MOST FAMOUS XANTHINE
Caffeine is the most famous member of the Xanthine family. Understanding how it affects the body will help us understand how Cocogen works.

When Adenosine binds to receptors in the brain, it causes blood vessels to dilate and increase the oxygen available to the brain during sleep. Unlike Adenosine, caffeine doesn't slow down the cell's activity. Instead of slowing down nerve activity, the cells speed up.
Caffeine causes the brain's blood vessels to constrict by blocking adenosine's ability to open them up. This effect is why some headache medicines like Anacin contain caffeine. When you have a vascular headache, the caffeine will close down the blood vessels and relieve it.
Caffeine increases the rate of neuron firing in the brain and causes the pituitary gland to believe the activity is being causes by some sort of emergency. The pituitary then releases hormones that signal the adrenal glands to release adrenaline into the bloodstream.
Adrenaline increases metabolism and thermogenesis producing an "adrenaline rush or energy burst.
Caffeine increases dopamine levels by slowing the rate of dopamine re-uptake. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that activates the pleasure centers of the brain. Caffeine blocks adenosine reception so you feel alert. It injects adrenaline into the system to give you an energy burst, and make you feel good and give you a sense of well-being.
